Are You Normal?

The natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness
to him; neither can he know them, because they are Spiritually discerned.
1 Corinthians 2:14

If you are normal, according to the Bible, you are in very serious trouble.  In this passage God tells us that any person who is "normal" is in serious trouble. (Although the Grk. word may not exactly mean"natural," or "normal," as used here, it still leaves this statement fully implied as true.)  Four things are implied by the verse:

1.    Normal people do not pay attention to what God says.

2.    Normal people regard the things God says as foolishness.

3.    Normal people do not have the ability to understand what God says:

4.    because the things that God says cannot be understood apart from His Spirit (and normal people do not have His Spirit --- Romans 8:9).

The result of these four things is that normal people do not know God.

"So what!"  What does it mean if you don't know God?

. . . at the revealing of the Lord Jesus from Heaven with the angels of His power,
in flaming fire taking vengeance on those who do not know God and who do not obey the gospel
of our Lord Jesus Christ,  who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of
the Lord and from the glory of His power.
 2 Thessalonians 1:7-8

In all of literature, there is nothing more awful or terrifying than this statement, if you understand it.  When you are dealing with an infinite God, you are dealing with infinite consequences.  And, like it or not, you are dealing with an infinite God.  As He says above,  He is entitled to your attention, and He does not tolerate being ignored, as normal people do with Him.

There is nothing more important in all your career, than that you know God.

What does it mean, to know God?  It means two things, and then a third:

Jesus answered and said to her, If you knew the Gift of God, and Who it is that says to you, give Me to
drink, you would have asked of Him, and He would have given you living water.
   John 4:10

1.    What the Gift of God is.

2.    Who Jesus Christ is.

If you KNOW these two things, you will know God.  You will be saved from the condemnation given above.  You will not be a normal person any longer.  Your destiny, rather than that condemnation, will be far more happy, wonderful, glorious, than anything you or anyone else has ever seen in all this world, forever.

If you will only listen, and hear God!  Whether a man goes to "Heaven" or "Hell" is not based on how he lives, as normal people think:  It is based on what he knows!

Please let me explain these things to you.  Turn the sheet over to continue:

The "living water" in the verse quoted above is a figurative expression the Lord uses to refer to many things, especially including a citizenship in Heaven, also called "eternal life."  It includes being saved from the damnation of Hell which will be the destiny of all who do not have it, who do not know God.

To have it, let's first look at what is the "Gift of God."

For the wages of sin is death; but the Gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Romans 6:23

"wages" means what we earn.  Because of our sins, we have earned "eternal death" (Hell).  The Bible says that "the SOUL that sins, it shall DIE."  The soul of man is the eternal part of him, and death of the soul is the damnation forever expressed above.  Because we have sinned, we have been condemned.  To escape Hell: to enter Heaven, you must be RIGHTEOUS, which means SINLESS.  The Bible says that "as death entered the world through one man, Adam, when he sinned, so death passed onto ALL, because ALL have sinned." It is IMPERATIVE to understand this!

No man is going to make it, on the basis of how he has lived!!!  That's why the Bible speaks of "being saved."  If a person has been overcome by CO in a closed garage with the engine running, he can do nothing to survive: he must be saved by someone else!  If a person has fallen off the ship into the ocean; there is no way he will escape death, except he be saved --- by someone else.  That is the state we are in, before God, because of our sin.

Any person who will call on the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ will be saved.
But how shall they call on Him in Whom they have not believed? . . .

Romans 10:13

We must be absolutely righteous before God; and there are only two ways that this can be:

1.    To never have sinned.

2.    To be (legally) pardoned from our sins.

We can certainly forget the possibility of #1.

And #2 is where that "Gift of God" comes in.  In effect, that Gift is to grant us a pardon from God, and thereby be declared absolutely righteous in His sight.  But we must understand that God is not like our governments: he cannot just hand out pardons with a wave of his fingers to favored people.  That would not be righteous.  What God does must be absolutely righteous. Understanding this is a part of  "knowing God."  This Gift that He offers us has to have a reason behind it; it has to be paid for.  And He paid for it Himself; otherwise, of course, it would not be a Gift.

And that is where the second thing comes in, that we must know:  Who Jesus Christ is.  For one thing, it is He Who paid for the Gift.  And it is He Who has the power to give it to anyone who will ask Him for it.  Which means, as the verse on the previous page said, to anyone who believes.  That is, to anyone who has listened to Him and knows Him; that is, knows God.

For He is God, come as a Man, in order to pay the price of the Gift for us.  "For the Son of Man is come to seek and to save that which was lost."  That is, God became the perfect Man, and paid the price (death) for the Gift, in order to save us, who were lost, under the condemnation of sin.

His resurrection from the dead is the verification before God that the price of our sin was fully paid, by Him.

The normal man knows nothing of all of this, since he has never listened to God through His Word, the Bible.  But you do.  And now:

"Whosoever will call on the Name of the Lord (Jesus) will be saved" --- Romans 10:13

"If you will confess with your mouth Jesus as your Lord (God), and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved" --- Romans 10:9-10.

The Bible says that when you do that, the Spirit of Christ comes into you (He already did, because otherwise you would have never believed), and He makes you a totally new creation.

"Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new."

Your world view will become totally transformed, as will your whole being.  You are no longer a "normal person."

Get into His Word, the Bible, from now on, continually, and grow.
