And His Name Shall be Called

Wonderful Counselor The Mighty God The Everlasting Father The Prince of Peace.
--- Isaiah 9:6 (KJV)

In Judges 13:5 - 23 regarding the Prophecy the Lord Jesus (IMO) gave Manoah and his wife:
5  For, lo, thou shalt conceive, and bear a son; and no razor shall come on his head: for the child shall be a Nazarite unto God from the womb: and he shall begin to deliver Israel out of the hand of the Philistines. {referring to Samson, of course}

6  Then the woman came and told her husband, saying, A man of God came unto me, and his countenance was like the countenance of an angel of God, very terrible: but I asked him not whence he was, neither told he me HIS NAME:

7  But he said unto me, Behold, thou shalt conceive, and bear a son; and now drink no wine nor strong drink, neither eat any unclean thing: for the child shall be a Nazarite to God from the womb to the day of his death. {except for his rabbit trail with Delilah somewhat before his death?}

8   Then Manoah intreated the LORD, and said, O my Lord, let the man of God which thou didst send come again unto us, and teach us what we shall do unto the child that shall be born.
9  And God hearkened to the voice of Manoah; and the angel of God came again unto the woman as she sat in the field: but Manoah her husband was not with her.
10  And the woman made haste, and ran, and shewed her husband, and said unto him, Behold, the man hath appeared unto me, that came unto me the other day.
11  And Manoah arose, and went after his wife, and came to the man, and said unto him, Art thou the man that spakest unto the woman? And he said, I am.
12  And Manoah said, Now let thy words come to pass. How shall we order the child, and how shall we do unto him?
13  And the angel of the LORD said unto Manoah, Of all that I said unto the woman let her beware.
14  She may not eat of any thing that cometh of the vine, neither let her drink wine or strong drink, nor eat any unclean thing: all that I commanded her let her observe.
15   And Manoah said unto the angel of the LORD, I pray thee, let us detain thee, until we shall have made ready a kid for thee.
16  And the angel of the LORD {or rather, "the Angel Who Is The Lord"? --- both according to the possible grammar, and to the context, where it seems definitely so stated} said unto Manoah, Though thou detain Me, I will not eat of thy bread: and if thou wilt offer a burnt offering, thou must offer it unto the LORD. For Manoah knew not that He was an angel of the LORD {as above --- of course, Manoah knew full well that This was, at least, an Angel, dummy!}.

17  And Manoah said unto the {angel of the LORD}, What is THY NAME, that when Thy sayings come to pass we may do Thee {note that the word, "Thee" refers to "The Lord," both above and below} honour?

18  And the angel of the LORD said unto him, Why askest thou thus after {MY NAME}, seeing it is {SECRET --- and this is the word, "Wonderful" in Isaiah 9:6, given there as a Name of the Lord Jesus Christ, Who is also this Angel, as Manoah and his wife soon terrifiedly realize.  And that Name is not "Yehoshua" nor anything like it}?

In the LXX, this NAME is Thaumiston, meaning something amazing, something to be wondered at, something "unknowable," etc, from which the idea "secret" might arise. Something just as important as His Name given anywhere else.

"HIS NAME" DOES NOT REFER TO A WORD.  IN HEBREW, OR IN GREEK OR IN ANY OTHER LANGUAGE.  I think that that is a major point of this whole passage.  This bears a lot of similarity to Moses' similar question, in Exodus 3:14, where the Lord gave His NAME as "Eyeh asher eyeh" claimed by the Lord Jesus in John 8:24, 58 as EGW EIMI, "I AM."  It was clearly explained in vs 24 not to be referring to words: He said that "Unless you KNOW Who I AM (meaning GOD, in this context) you will die in your sins."  The Gospel by which we are saved, in 1 Corinthians 15:2-4, is that "Christ {meaning God, Himself --- Acts 20:28}died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and rose again the third day according to the Scriptures."

19  So Manoah took a kid with a meat offering, and offered it upon a rock unto the LORD: and the angel did wondrously; and Manoah and his wife looked on.
20  For it came to pass, when the flame went up toward heaven from off the altar, that the angel of the LORD ascended in the flame of the altar. And Manoah and his wife looked on it, and fell on their faces to the ground.

What for, now?  He was gone, now!  --- Or, being the Omnipresent God, WAS He?  No; He never is!  Which Manoah and his wife well understood, unlike most people today.

21  But the angel of the LORD did no more appear to Manoah and to his wife. Then Manoah knew that he was an angel of the LORD {as above: that Angel Who is the Lord --- otherwise this statement would be nonsensical --- which doesn't seem to bother the "Hebrew scholars" the way they handle the Word for us --- eg, Psa 22}.

22  And Manoah said unto his wife, We shall surely die, because we have seen God. {because, "No man shall see Me, and live!"}

23  But his wife said unto him, If the LORD were pleased to kill us, he would not have received a burnt offering and a meat offering at our hands, neither would he have shewed us all these things, nor would as at this time have told us such things as these.

Wisdom of Manoah's wife, which needs to be thought upon, today.

John 3:17  “For Elohim did not send His Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world through Him might be saved."

Clearly a faulty "translation:" "Elohim " is plural; the actual Word, "Theos," is singular.

Ex 3:15  And God said moreover unto Moses, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, The LORD God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, hath sent me unto you: this is MY NAME for ever {given as "Eyeh asher Eyeh"}, and this is my memorial unto all generations.

Ps 33:11  The counsel of the LORD standeth for ever, the thoughts of his heart to all generations.  To those who speak in Hebrew; to those who speak in Aramaic; to those who speak in Koine Greek, to those who speak Spanish, Chinese, English, Swahili, or Pig-Latin, His Name is Wonderful Counselor, The Mighty El, The Everlasting Father, the Prince of Peace.  What ever words those people use to speak those things, that's what His Name is.

"And striving over words . . ."

"Whosoever shall call upon the Name of the Lord {iesous kristos} to those to whom this passage was addressed, shall be saved"

"That at the name of IESOUS, every knee shall bow, and every tongue confess . . . to the Glory of the Father."

It might be interesting to note that the Bible declares that the number of the NAME of the Beast is "666."  And it is recognized by COUNTING it.  That statement is very clear to anyone who knows that just as we sometimes use the numbering system called "Roman Numerals," so there are similar numbering systems in Greek (in which the Apocalypse was written), and in Hebrew.  If anyone wants, ask me and I'll send a chart of the Greek letters with their numerical equivalents.

Now the given Name of our Lord, in Greek, is Iesous.  Counting the number of His name, in Greek, yields the interesting number, 888.  And it is quite apparent that within the 27 accepted Books of the New Testament, that Name appears exactly 888 times, as referring to the Lord Jesus!  {don't include such verses as in Hebrews 4, where Iesous refers not to the Lord, but to Joshua in the OT}.

That should give us another, although certainly unneeded, hint as to the Epistles of the Apostle Paul.

Of course, that doesn't make Iesous THE NAME of God any more than the name of Yehoshua in the Hebrew is.  I'm quite certain that perfect language we will speak in Glory won't be English, nor Greek.  And neither will it be modern or ancient Hebrew.

We will ALL have a "new name," there.
